WHIMSICAL PLAYFUL ELEGANCE
Blazy’s latest collection invites us to reconnect with our inner child. Oversized silhouettes take center stage, reminiscent of kids donning their parents’ clothes after they’ve stepped out. This is undoubtedly the slouchiest look we’ve seen from Blazy yet, featuring long, flowing waistcoats, airy coach jackets, and dramatically oversized shoulders. The collection exudes a sense of childlike wonder, showcased in a vibrant kaleidoscopic color palette and a whimsical sweater vest adorned with a playful matchstick print.
“I was interested in the idea of wow, the wonder you have as a kid when you try something—it’s almost like primal fashion, your first experience of fashion when you try your parents’ clothes,” Blazy said.
Blazer shirts and dresses appeared delightfully wrinkled, as if they had just been fished out from the depths of a child’s laundry basket. Meanwhile, the Bottega Veneta classic—the flannel shirt—was crafted from luxurious materials and cinched at the waist, offering a more refined and sophisticated silhouette.
Blazy’s newfound embrace of childhood whimsy extended to the accessories as well. Frogs appeared as charming brooches pinned to cardigans, while a fish-shaped scarf was elegantly draped around a model’s shoulders. The designer’s signature leather fringing was transformed into quirky, spiky wigs that concluded the show. Additionally, one standout burgundy leather bag featured white lacing, giving it the playful appearance of an American football. To top it all off, models carried faux-plastic grocery bags, evoking the image of kids dressing up in their parents’ work attire and grabbing a shopping tote instead of a suitcase.
Matthieu Blazy truly shone in his SS25 show, aptly titled “Wow!” The show notes emphasized the importance of characters over mere clothing, presenting the models not just as wearers of fashion but as real-life personas. We saw representations like “the Italian industrialist,” “the businessman dropping his daughter off at school with her pink backpack,” and “a chic Milanese woman shopping at the supermarket.” This narrative approach added depth and relatability to the collection, transforming the runway into a vibrant storytelling experience.
Matthieu Blazy’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection for Bottega Veneta embraced a playful, childlike spirit, showcasing oversized jackets and one-legged pants layered beneath asymmetrical wrap skirts. The collection also featured pieces like a black tank dress and khaki and navy shirt dresses, designed with built-in wrinkles that gave the impression they had been crumpled at the bottom of a trunk, waiting for a whimsical game of dress-up.
This season’s front row was graced by former campaign stars Jacob Elordi and A$AP Rocky, alongside notable figures like Julianne Moore, Michelle Yeoh, James Blake, Sampha, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and a newly-blonde Kendall Jenner. Also making a surprise yet memorable appearance at the SS25 show was TikTok’s demure icon Jools Lebron, along with boxer and Olympic champion Imane Khelif, as well as fellow athletes Mondo Duplantis and Dina Asher-Smith.
